I've been writing software since the early 2000s. For most of that time, I thought the craft was about code quality, system design, and shipping velocity. I was wrong.

The real work is everything around the code — how teams communicate, how decisions get made, how organisations resist change even when they know better. The technical problems are almost always solvable. The human ones are where projects die.

I've led product and engineering at some of Indonesia's largest companies. What I took from each of them isn't the architecture diagrams. It's pattern recognition about why things go wrong — and what it actually takes to fix them.
